Erling Haaland update delivered by doctor after Man City star limped out of Norway training

Norway’s team doctor has confirmed that there is “no problem” with Erling Haaland after the Manchester City forward limped out of training on Tuesday afternoon.

The 23-year-old was substituted in the second half against Newcastle on Saturday, which prompted fears over a potential injury. Pep Guardiola played that down in his post-match press conference, though, and told his players to be careful over the two-week international break.

“He is not my player anymore from now on, what they will decide will be fine,” Guardiola said. “They know that they fought a lot and train a lot, a lot of adrenaline and concentration to arrive in this position. They know they are friendly games and they have to handle it wisely. Hopefully they can do it.”

But worries over an injury for Haaland has now arisen. After joining up with his Norway teammates, Haaland was seen in some discomfort during training and was not able to complete the session. The striker reportedly fell to the ground in pain after having a shot at goal and then left the field limping.

It doesn’t look like the issue is as bad as it first seemed, however. Speaking to TV2, Norway’s team doctor stressed that there is “no problem” with Haaland, which should mean that he will feature for them during the international break. Norway face Czech Republic and Slovenia in two friendlies over the next week.

Haaland will have an extended break over the summer, though, as Norway failed to qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany. Stale Solbakken’s side finished third in their qualifying group and will not feature at this summer’s tournament, though they do have two June friendlies scheduled.

Guardiola will be hoping Haaland can come through the international break unscathed as City have a jam-packed fixture list after the two-week hiatus. They face Arsenal in a blockbuster Premier League affair on March 31 before hosting Aston Villa and travelling to Crystal Palace within a six-day period.

Then for City is their Champions League quarter-final first-leg trip to Real Madrid as Guardiola’s side try and defend the competition they won last season. It’s still within the realms of possibility that City can repeat their treble heroics and win three major trophies before the end of the season.

Speaking in February, however, Guardiola dismissed the chances of that happening. He said: “This is a fairy-tale, it’s more complicated than that. Try to beat Everton and we will see what happens. We have 99.99% possibility that we are not going to win the treble because never, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever has [anyone] done it.

“If it was easy, another team – Manchester United in that time – would do it again. It’s not easy. Everything is so difficult in this business, what we did in the past doesn’t guarantee anything. You have to do all the things again every three days to stay there until the end.

“Hopefully we arrive in March and April with the same feeling to fight for the titles in May. This is the target.”

City currently sit third in the Premier League table, one point leaders Liverpool and second-place Arsenal.
