Harry Kane and three other England stars train away from rest of group amid injury fears

Harry Kane is one of four high-profile England players training away from the rest of the Three Lions squad ahead of their meeting with Brazil on Saturday.

Gareth Southgate’s side meet the Selecao under the iconic Wembley arch at the weekend in a friendly fixture. Three days later, England face off with Belgium at the same venue as the Three Lions gear up for Euro 2024 in the summer, but some key figures have not been spotted in full training in the build-up to the two ties.

Captain Kane, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Jordan Henderson were all put through their paces on their own, as part of “individualised programmes indoors”. Kane limped out of his most recent game for Bayern Munich with an ankle injury after getting tangled in the net while stretching to guide home a cross.

It is believed that Kane will be assessed by the Three Lions medical staff, who will report their findings back to the Bundesliga giants.

There are mounting fears that Shaw could be forced to miss out on both the remainder of the Premier League season and the Euros. The concerns surrounding the aforementioned quartet are nowhere near as serious, with none of them actually believed to be carrying any sort of injury.

Southgate’s decision to name Henderson in the squad drew its fair share of criticism, with many feeling the 33-year-old midfielder’s recent displays for Ajax have not justified international recognition. The ex-Liverpool ace joined the Dutch giants after his failed stint with Saudi side Al-Ettifaq came to an end after just six months.

The England boss was pressed for comment on whether the pair spoke about Henderson’s desire to leave the Saudi Pro League. Southgate explained: “We did speak.

“I’m obviously not going to divulge that conversation but yes it is good to see him back playing in a league that’s probably easier to assess, and of course is playing European football as well, where he had the game against Villa last week, which is easier for us to see the level he’s operating at.

“He has had a big influence on Ajax since he’s been there, and I know they are very happy with him. We know what he brings, we know the leadership he brings, and you saw in the game last week, the game understanding he has, and we must have some balance with all of the attacking players that we have.”

Henderson’s not the only one who has seen his name dominating the gossip forums in recent days. Southgate himself has been linked with the Manchester United job, amid speculation he is the preferred choice of INEOS to succeed Erik ten Hag if the Dutchman departs in the summer.
