Revealed: How much demolishing Old Trafford to build new stadium will cost
According to the Daily Mirror, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s decision to tear down Old Trafford and build a new stadium – either on the same site or the land adjacent to it – is estimated to cost over £3 billion.
Ratcliffe, who now controls Manchester United’s football operations as a minority owner, reportedly explored the option of redeveloping the stadium. Even that would have amounted to upwards of £1 billion.
A task force, including the Greater Manchester mayor and Gary Neville among others, has been set up to determine the best course of action to move forward.
The report adds that the Glazers have green-lighted the project as they prepare plans to raze the existing stadium and build the ambitious ‘Wembley of the North’.
