Xabi Alonso out of Liverpool’s final shortlist to succeed Jurgen Klopp — multiple sources
Xabi Alonso is unlikely to feature on Liverpool’s shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager this summer.
The story was broken by The Times’ Paul Joyce and repeated by other sources, like The Telegraph.
The reason behind Liverpool’s decision is the expectation that Alonso will decide to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another season to continue an impressive run. They are currently 10 points on top of the Bundesliga table and will compete in the Champions League next season.
Liverpool have already looked at alternatives despite a strong interest in Alonso.
Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi are now the outstanding remaining candidates, according to The Telegraph.
