Harry Kane’s title dream takes another dent as Bayern draw pushes Bayer Leverkusen closer to glory

Bayern Munich had been desperate to take all three points to try to close the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Having gone a goal down early to Freiburg, the German champions went ahead with goals from Mathys Tel and Jamal Musiala.

However, Freiburg struck almost out of nowhere when Lucas Holer’s 87th-minute volley levelled the scores as Kane had a rare off day.

The England international could not get on the scoresheet when Thomas Tuchel most needed him as Bayern took just a point from the Europa-Park Stadion.

It means that Leverkusen could go 10 points clear of Bayern Munich if they win their game in hand with 10 league games to go.

No side has ever made up such a deficit in Bundesliga history while Xabi Alonso’s side have yet to taste defeat in the league.

With Tuchel already set to depart at the end of the season, the former Chelsea coach could be set to leave with a whimper.

And Kane must be cursing his luck as he left Tottenham in search of trophies while Bayern have won the league every year since 2011.

Freiburg had taken the lead in fine fashion when Christian Gunter scored a beauty to put the home side ahead after 12 minutes.

Tel managed to equalise with a wonderful goal of his own before a stunning solo effort from Musiala late into the game put Bayern ahead.

However, there was a further twist to the tale when a long throw was sent into the visitor’s box before Holer lashed in a wicked half-volley.

No one can deny that Freiburg did not deserve a point, either, often looking more energetic and revved up for the contest.

As for Bayern, a crucial week for Tuchel has started terribly with Lazio up next in the Champions League.

But they will need to overturn a one-goal deficit at the Allianz Arena, having lost the first leg to Lazio 1-0 in Rome.
