Mohamed Salah hands Liverpool huge boost as he makes return ahead of Man City clash
Mohamed Salah is back in full training with Liverpool ahead of their potential title showdown with Manchester City on Sunday.
The Egyptian has only made two appearances for the Reds in 2024, scoring twice in the 4-2 win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day and netting after coming off the bench in the 4-1 victory at Brentford on February 17.
It was after that game in west London that Salah suffered issues with the hamstring injury that ended his Africa Cup of Nations tournament in January, and he has been forced to watch on in recent weeks as Liverpool have won the Carabao Cup, progressed in the FA Cup and maintained their strong league form.
He could now be set for a return to the action in Thursday evening’s Europa League last-16 clash with Sparta Prague in the Czech capital, having been pictured with his team-mates in a full session at Liverpool’s Kirkby base on Wednesday.
Salah was being put through his paces alongside the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Darwin Nunez, who both returned from their respective injuries in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest, where Nunez scored a dramatic last-gasp winner.
Caoimhin Kelleher also took a full part in the session despite some social media rumours that he was injured surfacing on Tuesday. The Irishman will continue to keep goal for the Reds in the absence of the injured Alisson Becker.
Salah’s return to the first-team fold will be welcome news for Jurgen Klopp ahead of the clash with City, although it remains to be seen whether he will be risked for the trip to Czechia. Speaking about his fitness last week, Klopp said: “It is day by day as well with Mo. It’s a similar area where he feels it (fatigue) a little bit. We have to see how it develops. It’s nothing crazy, but we have to see.”
Liverpool will now fly out to the Czech capital before conducting their pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening, where Klopp is sure to be pressed on the fitness of Salah.
Egypt will be monitoring the fitness of their talisman closely, with reports stating that they are determined to use him in the upcoming international break should he make an appearance for Liverpool between now and then.
