Jack Grealish left out of final England squad for Euro 2024

Previously a mainstay in Southgate’s side, Grealish struggled for form across 2023/24, managing just three goals and three assists across 36 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City and losing his spot in England’s starting lineup as a result.

Grealish did grab an assist off the bench in England’s 3-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina but, according to The Athletic, he will not travel with the squad to this summer’s European Championships.

The news comes as a huge blow to the 28-year-old, whose output at club level has attracted plenty of pressure over the past 12 months.

City boss Pep Guardiola even admitted Grealish had endured a tough campaign but backed the winger to rediscover his best form.

“He will be back,” Guardiola said. “He’s struggled this season and Jeremy [Doku] has made an incredible step forward as everyone has seen in the last games. But Jack will be back at the level of last season, I’m pretty sure.”

England’s final squad is now believed to be set after reports claimed Grealish was among seven players removed from Southgate’s 33-player preliminary setup.

Alongside Grealish, Southgate has dismissed James Maddison, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite, while Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has failed his quest to prove his fitness after battling injury.

Southgate will confirm his final 26-player team on Saturday, 24 hours after the final friendly against Iceland.
